Adult Therapy

With adults and adolescents, I find my approach to focus on empathetic, nonjudgmental listening.

Therapy, at its best, is a conversation where we can work together to better understand what you need, who you are, and what has happened in your life so you can have more freedom and self-awareness.

I believe we can address current struggles and pain, as well as explore your past experiences to help heal the parts of you that have been hurt, abused or mistreated.

Adult Therapy

Therapy with teens is distinct from work with children and adults.

The teenage years are a unique in-between time. Officially not adults, but pushing the boundaries of independence that adults more easily navigate, teens have needs that are often overlooked or minimized. I work with teens in a manner similarly to the way I work with adults. I focus on client-driven talk therapy, with a foundation of trust and openness. I work with parents of teens intermittently throughout a treatment when needed, but focus most my attention on the client.

My goal is to help teens navigate extremely difficult social, emotional and physical dilemmas that arise, as well as help them develop their own sense of identity. My hope is that a foundation of self-exploration in the teenage years will help foster a smoother transition into adulthood.

Getting to Know You

As I welcome you into my practice, often I will take some sessions to get to know you.

I want to hear about your unique story–who you are, where you have been, how you imagine you’ll grow. I find that this is often the best way we can approach therapy to address your particular concerns.

I prefer to have an open-ended timeline. This can mean that therapy could last a few months, or continue over many years. Trust grows over time, and I have found that a built relationship between therapist and patient can allow for the most useful and healing exchanges.
